“You’re miles away, in a North town and this space has got bigger,” is the longing first line of LANKS’ new single ‘My Own Mystery’ and it relates to a very real experience. As shared over his Facebook page, Will Cuming, the song was written just after the Australian songwriter-producer returned from traveling with his partner Tracey, as she headed to Sydney for a new dream job and Will stayed in Melbourne. For the following year, the couple lived mostly apart and this new track sums up their feelings of distance, loneliness and love. Apparently, Tracey was the one who chose Ngaiire to play her part in the song, embellishing the old-school grooves and ‘80s pop rhythms of LANKS’ production with her silky, R&B vocals, while Cuming’s offers the other side of the conversation in his feathery croon.
